What is an Empowerment Scholarship Account?
ESA is scholarship program that provides parents education options to qualified students, as an alternative to public or charter schools.
Who is Eligible?
Every K-12 student in Arizona is eligible to participate, regardless of family income, where the student lives in the state, or the student’s past academic performance.
How much does the ESA pay?
Average funding for students is $6,000 – $9000
Where and how can parents apply?
The CHS Arizona Academy is approved by the AZ Department of Education as an eligible high school for the Arizona Scholarship Account (ESA) Program. Eligible students may be enrolled with 100% of tuition covered by ESA funds.
Tuition Rates
The cost of tuition is based on a charge of $875 per high school credit hour. Yearly tuition costs will depend on how many course you sign up to take each year.
Note: The Arizona Empowerment Scholarship covers 100% of the AZ Academy Tuition Cost
For example:
- 1 Course
- 4 Courses
- 6 Courses
- = Tuition Cost: $875
- = Tuition Cost: $3,500 (4 x $875)
- = Tuition Cost: $5250 (6x $875)
Note: Each student’s total tuition will vary based on how many courses they will have to take to complete their diploma. Many students will transfer in credits and that will reduce the total cost of their diploma.
- The cost of the 18 Credit Career Diploma if the student takes 18 credits will cost $15,750 (18 x $875)
- The cost of the 24 Credit Career Diploma if the student takes 24 credits will cost $21,000 (24 x $875)

No the state allows you to apply at anytime, though it may take up to 30 days to find out if you are approved.
Unfortunately, ESA funds can only be used if you are no longer enrolled in a state public or charter school.
On your enrollment form, you will select your program of study and desired additional services. Then, we will email you an invoice to submit in Class Wallet to the state.
Call the ESA Support Line at 602-364-1969 (Monday – Friday from 8am-8pm or Saturday from 8am-12pm) or reach them anytime via e-mail through the Help Desk system. Help Desk tickets are assigned to individual ESA team members daily. This can take a couple of days to hear back.
While a portion of funding must be spent each year, any remaining funds remain in the account and roll over to the next year.
