Citizens Education Executive Team is excited to welcome Dr. Michael J. Dunsmore in the newly-created position of Director of Business Development and Strategic Outreach for Public / Private School Sector. He is responsible for growing Citizens’ Public & Private School portfolio of school district and education partners through the expansion of our school admin solutions, world-class curriculum and leading-edge innovation. Mike is managing all school system outreach and coordination for the team and driving our commitment to exceed expectations for our institutional partners in an ever-changing competitive environment. The industry is experiencing a massive disruption due to an unprecedented increase in online education utilization. Mike’s background in public education has uniquely qualified him for understanding the challenges of the sector and how to deliver tremendous value for our partners.
Before joining Citizens, Mike served as Superintendent of Wayne County Schools in North Carolina. Prior to that, he served in the same capacity, as Superintendent for Tyrrell County Schools. Mike graduated from Mansfield State College in Mansfield, Pennsylvania, in 1983 with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. In 1997, Dr. Dunsmore earned a master’s degree in Counseling from Shippensburg University in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. The following year he became an Emotional Support/Life Skills Teacher at an intermediate school in Summerdale, Pennsylvania. In 2003, Mike earned a master’s degree in Special Education from Shippensburg University. He served two years as Director of Special Education at Mount Union Area School District. In 2006, he became the Supervisor of Special Education at Palmrya Area School District, outside of Hershey, Pa. In 2008, Dr. Dunsmore earned a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Dunsmore has been a certified scuba diver for over thirty years and has served as a volunteer diver/educator at the North Carolina Aquarium since 2009. In addition to having served on various community and professional boards, Dr. Dunsmore is a member of the following organizations: Council for Exceptional Students, National School Superintendents Association, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, National Center for Educational Research and Technology, North Carolina Superintendents Association.
Dr. Dunsmore and his wife Diane met in high school and have been married 37 years. They have three grown sons and one granddaughter.
