At Citizens Online High School, we want you to feel confident and excited about your decision to pursue your high school diploma or further your education with us. The following are a few ways to learn more about specific aspects of the COHS experience.
Yes. COHS is a MSACESS and DEAC-accredited high school which means our courses and diplomas are accepted by high schools, colleges, and universities regionally and nationally. We will provide an official transcript at your request to any educational institution. Please note, acceptance of COHS credits is ultimately up to the school’s discretion.
Yes, for a homeschool student to receive credit for courses completed via home education, our admissions team will need the following information:
- Completed and signed Homeschool Grade Transcript of the student’s credits earned in grades 9-12
- Completed and signed Homeschool Curriculum Validation listing the educational materials used for each subject
completed in grades 9-12
- Completed and signed Homeschool Education Evaluation of the student’s academic progress in grades 9-12

Yes, Citizens Online High School is regionally accredited through the MSACESS (Middle States Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools). We are also nationally accredited by DEAC (Distance Education Accrediting Commission). COHS has been nationally accredited for nearly 40 years, making us the second oldest active nationally accredited distance education high school in the United States.
Yes, while COHS does not guarantee employment or acceptance into a specific college or university, our diploma is nationally accredited and our credits are accepted at most public and private universities. For those students interested in continuing their educations at 4-year institutions, we strongly recommend enrollment in our College Diploma track. For students interested in entering directly into the workforce, we suggest completing the Career Diploma track.
All courses and materials for COHS Online are completed online. The only exception to this policy will be in the science courses where hands-on experiments may be conducted using materials found around the home. Also some electives may require specialized equipment, but those items will be listed in the course syllabus for those specific courses.

The COHS Online tuition model is simple – $69 per month and you can take up to two courses at one time. There are no hidden fees, just study at your own pace, in your own environment.
COHS is confident you will be satisfied with your choice in education. Should you change your mind, COHS will refund your tuition according to the following refund policy per the requirements set forth by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission. COHS is a private school and funded through tuition paid by the students, unlike public schools which are funded by state and federal taxes. Our tuition helps ensure access to the best-available technologies, the ongoing development of customized courses, and highly qualified instructors no matter where our students live or from where they choose to study.
Our courses are designed to be completed in 16 weeks, by taking one lesson per week. By doubling or tripling the amount of lessons you complete each week, you can finish a course in as little as 28 days. It is up to you to set the pace that works best for your schedule.

Grading Scale for CHS courses is as follows:
A = 100% -90%
B = 89% – 80%
C = 79% – 70%
D = 69% – 60%
F = Below 60%
What Type of Technology is Required?
For best performance, you should access Canvas with a computer that supports the most recent browser versions. It is recommended to use a computer five years old or newer with at least 1GB of RAM.
Canvas only requires an operating system that can run the latest compatible web browsers. Your computer operating system should be kept up to date with the latest recommended security updates and upgrades.
Students may use a computer, tablet, or other mobile device to access their courses and review lessons. A computer and software program such as Microsoft Office or Open Office will be necessary to complete required assessments in the course.

Along with compatibility and web standards, Canvas has been carefully crafted to accommodate low bandwidth environments. Android 4.2 and newer

Software programs to create documents, spreadsheets, and charts may be necessary to complete assessments. Free software can be downloaded at https://www.openoffice.org. OpenOffice works with many operating systems and is free to download.
The Canvas interface was optimized for desktop displays, so using small form factors such as phones may not be a pleasant experience in using Canvas. For the best user experience, please download the Canvas mobile applications.
Since Canvas uses small elements of Flash, not all Canvas features may be supported on mobile devices, especially on iOS. However, Canvas offers limited support for native mobile browsers on tablet devices.
Speakers or Headphones with microphone capabilities may be necessary to complete some assessments.
A media player may be necessary to playback recordings and video lessons. Most computers come equipped with a media player. If not, you may download a free media player here – www.real.com.
