The Importance of Accreditation

Distance Education Accrediting Commission

Citizens High School has been accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission for nearly 40 years. DEAC is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a recognized accrediting agency.

In February 2022, CHS underwent a DEAC reaccreditation site visit. In June 2022, DEAC voted to place CHS on a Show Cause directive until January 2023. The issuance of a Show Cause directive is not an adverse action but an opportunity for CHS to provide DEAC with additional documentation to show that all standards are being met. During this period, CHS maintains accreditation.

The scope of this directive includes:

  • Standard I.B. Review and Publication of the Mission
  • Standard I.C. Information on Achievement of the Mission
  • Standard II.A. Institutional Effectiveness Planning
  • Standard III.B. Appropriate Program Outcomes
  • Standard III. E. Curricula Development and Delivery
  • Standard V.A. Student Achievement
  • Standard V.B. Student Satisfaction
  • Standard V.C. Performance Disclosures
  • Standard VI.C.1, Instructors, Faculty, and Staff
  • Standard VII. A. Advertising and Promotion
  • Standard VII.B. Institution and Course Accredited-Status
  • Standard VIII A. Admissions Disclosures
  • Standard VIII. D. Admissions Criteria
  • Standard VII. G. Enrollment Agreements
  • Standard IX.A Financial Disclosures:
  • Standard IX.B. Cancellations
